Clockwork Princess is the final book in the The Infernal Devices trilogy, so if you haven’t read the first two books please don’t read on :) However there are no spoilers and this isn’t really a review, I’d describe it as a random rambling.
There are so many reasons I was desperate to get my hands on Clockwork Princess the day it was released. Firstly, books one and two created a big mystery around why Tessa is so important to Mortmain. We know that him getting his hands on Tessa would unleash unimaginable horrors on the world, and we keep trying to figure out where the clockwork angel fits in. If that weren’t enough of an attention grabber, Cassandra Clare created thee ultimate love triangle between Will, Jem and Tessa. I’m not a fan of love triangles, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say this one sucked me in completely.

I love that Will and Jem have something more than a bromance going on, they are closer than brothers and then they both fall in love with Tessa, who loves them both! She doesn’t ever swing back and forth between loving Will and loving Jem. Somehow Cassandra Clare managed to make it all poignant where a lesser writer might have made it seem so trite. We get to know the characters so well that we understand exactly how and why Tess loves both Jem and Will.

Although I understand that the three characters all care about each other I had no difficulty choosing my favourite man. Yes, I love Will… but I adore Jem. Jem’s always been the one for me :) .   A bit of advice though, if you have the collector’s first edition do not read the inner sleeve! It has a beautiful family tree that will give away the story. All I can share with you is that Clockwork Princess is beautifully written. Victorian London come to life, as do all the characters and their passions – Tessa and Will’s fondness for reading, and Jem’s love of music, all of which are vivid and moving. I cried, which I so knew was going to happen. Parody of me reading Clockwork Princess with a fever and chest infection. Oh, Jem’s so beautiful, sniff, sniff. Jem played the violin and it was fab! I’m sick and Jem’s sick! OMG it’s little Jem when he was sick at just twelve, and he was amazeballs then too. Argh! It’s all so tragic…and I can’t put the book down….will he live, he has to live! Oh, I feel like I’m dying inside, wails.  Okay, I didn’t wail, but I did cry.

The plot is fantastic, I’m not sure how Cassandra Clare kept track of all the sub-plots and managed to feed them into her other series – The Mortal Instruments. The world of the Shadow Hunters is truly epic, and even though TMI is still running I can’t help but feel sad that The Infernal Devices series is over. The story was perfect as a trilogy, but I can’t help but feel a petty jealousy that TMI got more books! Jace and Clary vs Tessa, Jem and Will? For me there’s no contest :) I’ll pick the Victorian trio each time.

All in all: If you couldn’t tell from the rambling above: I loved it!
